Recent changes in how fuel is produced have impacted fuel storage, fuel quality, and equipment maintenance. Unintended consequences of reducing sulphur content from 5000ppm to less than 15ppm are occurring because microbial bacteria are now allowed to flourish in a fuel storage system. When that happens, their waste (acid) causes the following problems: extensive corrosion of metallic components, tank failures, prematurely plugged filters, fouled and damaged injector heads, lower fuel economy, increased maintenance costs on capital equipment.
